London Olympics: Shreya finishes 47th out of 50 in 100-m freestyle swimming, but sets new national record


Nepal's Shreya Dhital has set a new national record in 100 meter freestyle swimming in the London Olympics on Wednesday.Dhital broke her own record with a timing of 1 minute 10.80 seconds in 100 meters. The previous national record she set at the 14 FINA World Swimming Championship held in China, last year, as was 1 minute 10.82 seconds.

However, Dhital failed to qualify into the next round of the tournament as she finished 47th of the total 50 swimmers.

Of the total five players from Nepal, swimmer Prasiddha Shah is set to play in 50-meter freestyle on Thursday. Similarly, athletes Pramila Rijal and Tilak Ram Tharu are also set to compete in women’s and men’s 100-meter in the following days, respectively.

Shooter Sneha Rajyalaxmi Rana is already out of the tournament finishing at 54th place out of 56 shooters in the Women's 10 meters air rifle competition at London Olympics on Saturday.

Rana scored 383 points, which was five points less than her own national record. She had scored 388 points during Asian Shooting Championship held in Qatar.
